Education is Freedom

My role as a mother to four diverse students enrolled in various Peoria schools, including one receiving special education services, has given me crucial insight into the district's rich diversity. My active participation as a Site Council Member and PTSO Member over the past two years further emphasizes my unwavering dedication to maintaining educational excellence, highlighting the significance of supporting teachers and fostering parental engagement.

I currently serve as the President of the PUSD governing board and ask for your vote to continue building on the issues I championed during this past year..

My Focus - The Issues

Safe Schools

Students can only thrive in environments that feel safe from both internal and external dangers. I will dedicate the necessary resources to ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment. As a business owner in the security sector, I understand the need for up-to-date security equipment.  I also know how to accomplish that for the lowest price possible. Beyond facilities, I'm committed to expanding our academic counseling program to ensure every student has a safe and trusted adult on campus.

Opportunity For All Students

An excellent education shouldn't be limited by location.  All students deserve a solid runway for future success. We do our city and country a disservice if we base opportunity on ZIP code.

Education is supposed to open the door to opportunities in life. For some, this will be a 4-year university; for others, it might be with trade school and our CTE programs. Whatever the student wants to pursue, I will ensure they have the resources they need to leave PUSD ready to take the next steps in their life.

Academic-Focused Classrooms

We live in a world full of noise and constant distractions. Our classrooms must focus on what will give our students the best chance for academic success. Focusing on the right academics will lead to workforce readiness. This means smaller class sizes and diligent teaching to the highest standards, allowing every student to thrive and reach higher than they thought possible. I want to help teachers streamline the standards so that we can focus on what actually increases student proficiencies.

Data-Driven Leadership

The numbers don't lie. We will build on what we do best and admit and fix where we fall short, which is the path to success. I'll use my business and leadership skills to focus on student success. I believe we have been data-rich but insight-poor in the past. It isn't enough to have lots of data if you don't use it to gain insight. I am committed to a transparent and consistent approach of periodic community presentations about where the district is currently and where our trajectory lies. I will continue to work with our cabinet to this end. In addition to continuing to hone our data collection and review processes, I'm committed to ensuring that this data will impact the trajectory of every student in our district. If we use the data properly, we will have the ability to provide a runway for success beyond the classroom. I'm incredibly encouraged and excited to see the fruition of Dr. Theresa Hernandez' new academic focus.

Enhanced Teacher Retention

The real heroes of our district are the teachers who are pouring into our students day in and day out. We need to ensure that PUSD is pouring into them in the same way. All schools compete with the business world for top teaching talent. I am focused on creating an exceptional workplace environment and giving teachers the time they need to prepare lessons in addition to finding a way to raise teacher's pay. Our district is full of amazing students, parents, staff, and teachers that all have the same goal, to educate our children. I will also ensure that there is robust professional development and support in place that give the teachers the help they actually need.

Keep Politics Out

There's not a lot to say on this topic; I think the title speaks for itself. I am a strong advocate for teaching core knowledge in the classroom. We must remain focused on what the students are here to learn. Our job is to stay focused on the facts and help develop critical thinking skills within each student.  By helping students to acquire critical thinking skills, we ensure that they are able to go out into our very complex world with discernment. I continue to remain committed to non-partisan, student-centered decision-making.

Doing what’s right, no matter the consequence

After I accepted the appointment to the Peoria Unified School District School Board in November 2023, I spent most of my time speaking with administrators, teachers, parents, and students while visiting over 35 of the district’s schools. Initially, my goals were to listen and understand the challenges facing our students and schools. After taking it in for over six months, I understand how I can best serve our community and schools.

Help me to continue representing you by donating to my campaign. I appreciate it.
